With a New Year Comes the Promise and Hope of a New Begining

No matter how bad or good 2003 may have been, this is a fresh begining. Georgia Tech played the University of California in the Rose Bowl 1919. Shortly before half time, a player named Roy Riegel recovered a fumble for California . Somehow he became confused and started running 65 yards - in the wrong direction . A teammate tackled him before he scored for the opposing team. During half time, Roy covered his face with a towel and cried like a baby. His coach didn't quite know how to encourage this very discouraged young man and his teammates. With only three minutes before the second half the coach announced, "Men, the same team that played the first half will start the second half." Riegel looked up, and with tears in his eyes he said, "Coach, I can't do it. I've ruined you, the school, and myself. I cannot face the people." The coach put his hand on Riegel's shoulder and said, " Roy , get up and go back. THE GAME IS ONLY HALF OVER!" Roy went back and everyone who saw that famous game said it was the greatest half of football a player ever had.

Sometimes we take the ball and run in the wrong direction. We stumble and fumble and are so ashamed of ourselves that we never try again. But God says, "Get up and go back. The game isn't over."

Proverbs 28:13 "The one who confesses and forsakes his mistakes gets another chance."
